Answers to your questions

Changes to how credit card balances appear

Why has the way my credit card balance appears changed in mobile and online services?

The digital environment is constantly evolving. Like all organizations, we have to update our systems to accommodate these technological changes.

To continue meeting the needs and expectations of our members and clients, we’re transferring our credit card processing to a new system based on industry components.

When will I see the improvements in mobile and online services?

The Desjardins mobile app will gradually be updated in the App Store and the Google Play store.

We’ve already made the changes in our online services.

What is included in the posted balance?

The posted balance includes all the amounts billed to your credit card: purchases, fees and interest charges.

The posted balance doesn’t include authorized but unposted transactions or payments that are still being processed.

This amount is updated when authorized transactions are processed, such as pay‑at‑the‑pump gas purchases or hotel stays.

What does available credit mean?

Your available credit is the amount you can use on your credit card at any given moment. It’s calculated by subtracting your posted balance and your authorized unposted transactions from your credit limit.

When you make a purchase or pay down your credit card, your available credit adjusts in real time in our mobile and online services.

Paying your credit card balance

I just paid down my credit card, but my balance hasn’t gone down yet. Is this normal?

Yes. Your credit card balance doesn’t update right away when you make a payment. It can take up to 2 business days before your posted balance is updated in our mobile and online services.

However, your payment will immediately show up on your list of authorized unposted transactions, and your available credit will update accordingly.

I want to pay off my credit card in full. Where do I find out how much I need to pay so that my balance is $0?

To pay off your credit card in full and have a zero balance, you’ll need to manually calculate how much you need to pay by adding the total of your authorized unposted transactions to your posted balance.

To see your posted balance and your authorized unposted transactions, log in to our mobile and online services. To find out the full amount you need to pay, select your credit card to see your posted balance, then add the amount of your authorized unposted transactions (displayed below your posted balance).

If you pay off your balance without considering your authorized unposted transactions, you may end up with a new balance once these transactions are confirmed in a few days.

You may incur fees if you then assume your balance is zero and fail to pay off the new balance on time.

To avoid this situation, we recommend you pay your balance once your statement is ready and you have the correct amount.

Transactions

I just made a purchase, but I don’t see it on my credit card. Is this normal?

Yes. Your credit card balance doesn’t automatically update when you make a purchase. Each transaction has to be confirmed by the merchant before it appears on your posted balance in our mobile and online services. This can take up to 36 business days.

What is an authorized unposted transaction?

An authorized, unposted transaction is one you’ve recently made on your credit card. It’s posted to your account when the merchant confirms the transaction.

While we wait for this confirmation, we set aside the amount for this transaction from your available credit. You can see the real-time amount available on your credit card at any time.

Authorized transactions may be pending for up to 36 business days. Transactions on trip, hotel and car reservations often remain pending longer than other transactions. If a transaction isn’t confirmed, it will be erased from your account.

To see your authorized unposted transactions, log in to our mobile and online services. Select your credit card to see your posted balance, then select Transactions to see your authorized unposted transactions.
