Security of the Interac e-Transfer service

Wondering if Interac e-Transfer is secure? When you use this service, the only things you'll receive by email or text are notifications or deposit instructions. Information about your account is never sent to the deposit recipient.

To better protect yourself, adopt good habits:

  • Security question: If you use one to make a transfer, make sure the answer is hard to guess, even for someone close to you. Using a security question prevents another person from depositing the funds.
  • Phishing: Beware of text messages and emails that ask for personal information or promise you some kind of compensation.

Can I increase my Interac e-Transfer limit?

No, it's not possible to increase the limits for Interac e-Transfer.

The maximum you can send is $5,000 per transfer, per 24-hour period. You can receive up to $25,000 per transfer.

I got a text message from the number 100001. Is it legitimate?

Yes. 100001 is the short code address used to send all Interac e-Transfer text notifications (transfer receipt notifications, reminders, etc.).

How do I decline an incoming Interac e-Transfer?

If the transfer was sent with a security question, you can simply ignore it. It will expire in 30 days.

You can also directly decline a transfer by answering the security question (as if you were going to deposit the money). You'll then have the option to decline the transfer.

How do I send a reminder to an Interac e-Transfer recipient?

You can't send an Interac e-Transfer reminder on AccèsD, but Interac sends regular reminders. After 30 days, the transfer expires and you can retrieve the funds from the Manage active e-Transfers section.
