    Easy-to-use features

    Autodeposit transfers

When you send an Interac e-Transfer to someone registered for Autodeposit, you don’t need to provide a security question. Funds are automatically deposited into the account linked to the details you provide, and the recipient receives an email confirmation.

Note that you cannot cancel the transfer once you’ve sent it, so make sure to double check:

    • The recipient’s name and details
    • The amount

    How Autodeposit works

When you make a transfer, a message appears saying the recipient is registered for Autodeposit and that you do not need to provide a security question.

For instance, if your landlord has set up Autodeposit, your rent will be directly deposited into their account. We then send them an email confirming the transaction.

Rest assured that even without a security question, your transfer is secure. Autodeposit is quick and easy to use and helps ensure that your money falls into the right hands.

    Confirmation of transfer

Once your Interac e-transfer is deposited, you receive a confirmation message and number. There may be a delay between the time you receive confirmation and the time the recipient gets the money.

    Request Money

This feature allows you to request money by email or text message. However, for now, you can only receive money requests.

You have the option to accept or decline the request. If you accept it, the funds are immediately withdrawn from your account and deposited into the recipient’s account (see how to accept a money request).

Once you’ve accepted the request, you cannot cancel the transfer, so make sure you double check:

    • The type of notice you received (money request or transfer)

    • The recipient’s name and details

    • The amount

    Read Interac messages carefully

Make sure you know whether you’re being sent money or being asked to send money.  Scammers can take advantage of your negligence and send a request to withdraw money instead of one to deposit money. Learn more about this common scam.

    Fees

If you haven’t exceeded the number of transactions included in your plan, you don’t pay any fees. If you don’t have a plan, you pay any applicable Interac e-Transfer fees. Declining a money request is always free.

    Transfer expiry date

You have 30 days to respond to a request sent by email or text message. If you haven’t accepted or declined the request, the person who initiated it can send you reminders during this period.

    Blocking requests

You can choose to block someone who sends you a money request. See the email or text sent to you by Interac or go to the Interac preferences page. You can also choose to stop receiving money requests altogether.
