Information required for SWIFT transfers

To complete a SWIFT transfer, you need the following information about your recipient:

  • First and last name
  • Home address or business address
  • Financial institution branch address
  • Banking details based on destination (for example: BIC or Business Identifier Code, also called the SWIFT code, account number, branch name and ID)
  • Reason for transfer (for example: reservation, subscription)

    An 18-digit CLABE (Clave Bancaria Estandarizada) number

    The first 3 digits identify the bank, the next 3 refer to the branch, the next 11 represent the recipient’s account number, and the last one is the check digit.

    Some Mexican banks don’t use CLABE numbers for US dollar accounts. Only the account number is required.

  • Mandatory banking information:

    The 12-digit CNAPS (China National Advanced Payment System) code is required for transfers in Chinese yuan (CNY).

    This code identifies the recipient’s bank branch.

    To avoid transfer returns or delays, don’t shorten the recipient’s first or last name.

    If you don’t have enough space in the Recipient name field, continue on the first line of the Beneficiary address field. Continue in the Purpose of payment field if you need to.

    According to Chinese regulations, individuals can only receive funds transfers related to business transactions if authorized by their financial institution. It is your responsibility to verify this with the recipient.

    A 6-digit BSB (Bank State Branch) number is required for transfers in Australian dollars (AUD).

    This code, which identifies the recipient’s bank branch, must be entered in the Identification no. box on the AccèsD Affaires form.

    BIC

    A Business Identifier Code, also called a SWIFT code, has 8 or 11 characters. The first 8 characters identify the financial institution and the last 3 identify the branch.

    IBAN

    An International Bank Account Number is a bank account identifier mainly used in Europe. It varies from country to country and has up to 34 characters.

    It often appears on bank statements and invoices of companies and individuals residing in participating countries.

    Even if they’re not required locally, some countries might use IBANs. If an IBAN is indicated on the AccèsD Affaires form, we recommend you use it instead of the account number.

Information required for international direct deposit

To make an international direct deposit, you need the following information about your recipient:

  • First and last name
  • Home address or business address
  • Financial institution branch address

Security

Check current international economic sanctions

Desjardins Group and all financial institutions in its network of foreign correspondent banks are subject to strict regulations on international economic sanctions.

Funds transfers may be temporarily blocked as a result of these sanctions. If your transfer is blocked, you may be asked some additional questions. It will then be either completed or cancelled, depending on your responses.

With some exceptions, a funds transfer cannot be completed if an individual, business, organization, group or country involved in the transaction is directly or indirectly subject to international economic sanctions.

It is your responsibility to make sure that your funds transfer doesn’t violate international economic sanctions.

How do I receive an international money transfer?

To receive an international money transfer, fill out the relevant section of the Incoming Wire Transfer (PDF, 167 KB) This link will open in a new window. form, then send it to the person who’s planning to transfer funds to you.

How is the exchange rate set?

The exchange rate used is the real-time market rate. Exchange rates are updated live between 7:30 AM and 5 PM on business days.

When the markets are closed (before 7:30 AM and after 5 PM on business days and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays), Desjardins Group’s Treasury increases the spread between the current buying and selling rates. The spread is readjusted once the markets open.

My recipient says they haven’t received the money. Can I check the status of my transfer?

Yes. To view the status of your transfer, fill out the Investigation Request for Funds Transfer Sent or Received form on AccèsD Affaires in a web browser. Select Transfer, then International transfers and Forms.

Service charges apply as they do to process any request from a bank for inapplicable, refused or returned payments.

Can I make a correction or request a return of funds once my transfer has been sent?

Yes. However, service charges apply as they do to process any request from a bank for inapplicable, refused or returned payments. In addition, the exchange rate for a returned funds transfer may differ from the rate originally used to make the transfer.

Select Transfer, then International transfers and Forms to fill out one of the following forms on AccèsD Affaires in a web browser:

  • Funds Transfer – Additional Information Requested by the Investigation Department

Use this form to respond to a request for information if the recipient’s institution is unable to deposit the funds according to your instructions.

If you discover an error in the recipient's name or account number, or to make any other change to your transfer, contact us.

  • Funds Transfer Cancellation Request

Use this form to ask for your funds to be fully or partially returned to you due to an error or fraud. Make sure you indicate the reason for your request.

Doesn't include weekend or statutory holidays in Canada or the country of destination.
