2 easy ways to identify yourself

When you open a Desjardins account, we verify your identity to confirm it’s you and to protect against fraud. When you apply online, you can choose between 2 identity verification methods.

Here’s what you need to use them.

Verify identity with documents

  • Valid Canadian or international passport or driver’s licence
  • Smartphone or tablet to take a selfie and a photo of your passport

Verify identity with Interac Verification Service

  • A bank account at BMO, CIBC, RBC, Scotiabank or TD
  • Your login information for this account

Using a document to verify your identity

This method is compatible with mobile devices only.

  1.  Step 1 Start opening your account in the app

    At the verification step, select verifying identity with documents. Enter the required information and accept the terms of use.

  2.  Step 2 Snap a photo of your document

    Confirm your information or edit if necessary.

  3.  Step 3 Take a selfie

    We’ll compare this photo to your passport photo to make sure they match. Once that’s confirmed, your identity is validated. Continue your application.

Using the Interac Verification service

  1.  Step 1 Start opening an account in the app

    When you reach the identity verification step, select Interac Verification Service.

  2.  Step 2 Select your financial institution

    Select a financial institution you have an account with. Enter your existing login information for this institution.

  3.  Step 3 Enter your information

    Enter your personal information to complete the verification process. Continue your application.

Is my personal information secure upon verification?

Yes. Your personal information stays secure with both verification methods.

Your login credentials are not stored with the Interac Verification Service. It only uses the information needed to verify your identity as outlined in the Privacy policy External site..

What happens if my identity verification is unsuccessful?

If your identity verification is rejected, make an appointment at a caisse or branch for assistance.
