William Lainesse: Hi. I'm William Lainesse and I'm from Warwick.

[On screen visual: William Lainesse and his mother, Valérie, are sitting on the outside steps of the Centre. We go from a close-up shot of William working in the store, to a black and white picture of William in the Centre, then a second black and white picture of William sitting on the steps, and a shot showing William putting away mugs on a shelf.]

Valérie Lainesse: William's situation is special. He has autism spectrum disorder. School is out now, but he was at La Fermentière. He's been in school quite a while without really getting anywhere. Now the Centre has decided to take him on as an intern.

William Lainesse: After 7 years, I've lost my motivation. It's not that I did 7 years of grade 7 intensively. Some of my schools were more focused on activities than academics, and I just wasn't getting anywhere.

William Lainesse: If I was aiming for a job, or I really needed to get my high school, I know myself, I'd kick myself in the butt and do it.

Valérie Lainesse: Now, they're looking at how they can help him transition into work while being supported by programs.

William Lainesse: When the clothing truck comes in, I unload it and bring the clothes to the ladies. Once the clothing's sorted, I take it to the shed or to the docks for later.

William Lainesse: When we get stuff outside for sorting, like microwaves or knick-knacks, I go get it, sort it, and put a price tag on it. I have worked in the kitchen, but it made me too hungry, so I stopped. Sometimes I help sort clothes.

William Lainesse: I've started to do some customer service, which is fun.

Valérie Lainesse: When I see my son heading off for the Centre, doing lots of things there, cooking, helping customers, I'm impressed! The opportunities the Centre is giving him are fantastic.
