Scholarships: Nissrine’s story
Nissrine was born in Morocco. Her family moved to Quebec when she was a child and she now studies medicine at McGill University. Nissrine firmly believes that we learn our lessons and grow through our life experiences. That is why she's always been involved in different areas of activity while staying focused on her studies.
Among her notable projects:
- Setting up the Amnesty International committee in college
- Organizing two benefit concerts to raise awareness of people with intellectual disabilities
- Volunteering at a public long-term care centre
- Tutoring
She is a passionate human rights advocate and her goal is to one day work for Doctors of the World or do research work to find solutions to issues facing third-world countries. Nissrine was awarded a $1,500 scholarship for her commitment to the community.
“Words cannot describe how I feel. I'm truly honoured and encouraged. Despite some financial difficulties, I always do my best to focus on academic success and community involvement. But it's not always easy when you have to juggle a student job on the side. To me, this scholarship means that someone recognized that hard work and wanted to let me know that I'm on the right path. Thank you!”
From March 1 to 31, you can apply for a Desjardins scholarship. Spread the word!
